I will be honest, I liked the concept behind Fiverr.com.
Just a couple of clicks and a client can set an order using a freelancer based on a particular set of deliverables.
Sure, but it comes at a price tag. A huge one.
That is only the few freelance platforms where buyers have been given free reign to abuse, sabotage and outright blackmail vendors any way they like.
Why? Because Fiverr turn a blind eye to it.
In this informative article, I'd like to discuss a new bad experience for a vendor on Fiverr, and why I chose to give up on the stage altogether.
How A Regular Order Quickly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
(I have been advising her on building up a respectable accounts, and the way to go above and beyond every last purchase. Everything mentioned is her doing, I'm only an audience )
In cases like this, she had only gotten another $5 order on her emblem gig, which appeared to be like another... or so we believed.
The purchase was fulfilled in good time, and my girlfriend had included a bonus emblem concept as well as the source file (that is usually a part of the more expensive package).
The customer"loved" one of the concepts and so we moved to ship her the appropriates record sizes, as stated in the final description.
The customer came back asking for a social media kit to go with the logo, something that is clearly not available as part of her post.
In my advice, my girlfriend chose to provide the extra work, despite not getting paid any extra for it.
After that, the customer responded with even more requirements and some modifications to the social media files.
At this time, she agreed enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this individual, they have been clearly overstepping their bounds here.
That is when the customer went from only overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took some time to contemplate a response and reach to Fiverr support for help, the client did finally go right ahead and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this was to show her he/she wasn't Fiverr - Freelance Services Marketplace for The Lean Entrepreneur kidding.
Soon after, while still waiting on Fiverr's answer to the support query, the client paid an additional $10 to your social networking kit.
Needless to say, the payment has been accompanied by still another threat.
Now, all I wished to do was move all Liam Neeson and search this person down so that I could punch them in the face.
But, in the time, I had hope that Fiverr service would step in and save my girlfriend out of that PITA client.
When the answer came from Fiverr support, they told her they could Fiverr Review- Why Should You Sign Up? Check Out My Review and ... not induce the purchaser to accept the purchase.
Alright, that's reasonable enough. (though the purchaser accepted it, technically.)
In addition they proposed drawing up a listing for the purchaser to demonstrate the work was completed in accordance with the gig requirements.
Frankly, this response simply didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend communicated in her first email that the client was hoping to extort her for free work outside the agreed periods, by leaving a negative inspection if she did not comply.
Obviously, it was not really about the work, it had been about seeking protection from an abusive customer who was blatantly pushing his luck.
Their reply didn't give either of us any confidence that Fiverr actually understood that, and even in this point we felt like they did not wish to get involved.
At the same time, she also responded to the buyers newest threat, explaining that she would not continue to operate together unless the comments was changed/removed.
(Again, this can be comments which has been obviously and intentionally left to bully her into providing function outside of the agreed terms.)
An honest request by anyones standards, appropriate?
Rather than acknowledge what the purchaser had completed until this time, Fiverr instantly turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the only breaking all the rules.
Because she had asked the client to modify their feedback, she was no longer eligible for some help from Fiverr support.
It is possible to imagine how we both felt studying this.
Everything that the purchaser had done and said before her final message has been now being swept under the rug -- as if never happened whatsoever.
Fiverr basically decided to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain on an accounts she'd worked so hard to build up.
If everything that happened was not upsetting enough, it's knowing that this individual is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless vendors with no sprinkling of repercussion.
And think, there are tons of buyers doing precisely this on Fiverr, knowing they could and will eliminate it.
Well, as all this was happening, I did a little investigating to find out if some other vendors went through a similar ordeal with a buyer.
Quite quickly, I discovered a variety of almost identical cases on the Fiverr forum outdated years ago. (that's correct, decades.)
This is obviously something that's been happening for a long time and it all stems from providing buyers also much power over vendors.
When there's one thing I've learned about Fiverr, it is that clients are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how much time that you put into a project, or how hard you worked on it, or even how well you managed communication during a official site dispute, even if it really boils down to it... freelancers have little to no security.
Even when it's a clear cut case in your favour, there is still every chance the client will come out on top. All it takes it one little thing that you"did wrong" in accordance with their own conditions of support and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Taking a look at the evidence, it is clear to me Fiverr is well aware of what's happening, yet is still inclined to sit back and let it happen.
A Final Message To Fiverr. If you are a decision maker in Fiverr and you're reading this, then I urge you to seriously reconsider your existing support procedures for freelancers.
It's not right that somebody can set all that time and effort into building up an account and also over-delivering at every possible chance, just to be taken down from the very people that you rely on to protect you.
Look, I really don't want to abandon Fiverr. I don't wish to be telling people to avoid your platform.
But after everything that's occurred, you haven't left me any decision.
Until something is done to safeguard freelancers from using this kind of abuse, I will continue to propagate this post and do whatever I could to prevent others from falling victim to a one-sided support team.
The second you really do something about it and give freelancers a way to fight back, I'll be happy to update this article.
